Police Arrest Five Suspected Cultists Arrested, Recover Guns, Others In Ughelli North

 

FIVE persons suspected to be cultists have been arrested as guns, live cartridges and other items were recovered in a hotel raided by security agents,in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

 

The suspects whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of this report were arrested during a raid on a popular hotel name withheld between Afiesere and Ogbonwan communities respectively.

 

The items allegedly recovered during the raid include, three cut to size guns, live cartridges, battle axe, four android phones, biro and a bag.

 

 

It would be recalled that four persons were recently killed at different locations within Ughelli and Ogor communities in related cult clash between two rival groups, Aye and Bagger.

 

A source who confided on the Pointer said, “While wealthy cultists are negotiating peace, poor cultists, along with a few wealthy ones, are promoting violence.

 

“One of the few wealthy cultist promoting violence is a Doctor who is also a member of one of the rival group and he is not only sponsoring the conflict but also actively participating.

 

“He was reportedly seen in one of the communities within Ughelli rolling with his squad in a Venza car.

 

When they stormed the home of one of their rival and meet him absent at Ogbovwan, they killed his dog and shot his building was perforated with bullets.

 

“But the ever active Delta State Police raided the doctor’s hotel, recovering various weapons. Although the doctor was not present during the raid, four persons were reportedly arrested.

 

“We trust the Delta State Police to ensure that they face the full extent of the law after their investigations.”

 

When contacted, the Delta State Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright who confirmed the arrest said, “At about 1100hrs a complaint was received by Ofuoma Division that on the same date, at about 0900hrs some suspected cultists gathered at Ovine Hotel Afiesere

 

And later went to Ogbovwan community and shot sporadically killed a dog chained in the house, doors and windows shattered with bullets, the DPO Ofuoma division CSP Patrick Uebari upon receipt of this complaint led patrol teams to the scene.

 

“The suspects upon sighting the police took to their heels in different directions, the operatives went after them and arrested five suspects all suspected to be members of black axe confraternity.

 

“Three locally-made cut-to-size guns, one battle axe twelve live cartridges, seven expended cartridges eight phones, and two cross bags.Efforts to arrest the other fleeing suspects are ongoing.”
